ww2dbaseAt the start of the war, she was a member of the 1st Cruiser Squadron of the French fleet. She saw some action in 1940, including a bombardment of Genoa, Italy in Jun 1940, but for the following two years she generally sat idle at Toulon in southern France. On 27 Nov 1942, as German troops approached in an attempt to take control of the French fleet, her crew detonated her magazine in a successful attempt to scuttle her. She remained in place until 1948 when she was finally broken apart for scraps.
