ww2dbaseThe Type 92 10 cm Cannons were initially designed between 1923 and 1924 and the first prototype was built in 1932; the long period in-between was caused by the Japanese Army's further requirement to significantly decrease the weight and increase the range of these weapons. They entered production and service in 1934, and production ceased after only 180 units were built by the Osaka Arsenal. They were unique in their appearance, which featured long and slender gun barrels, which made them difficult to transport. Despite the transport difficulties with them, however, they remained in use because they were accurate even at long ranges. During WW2, they were first used in combat with the Japanese 7th Independent Heavy Field Artillery Regiment against the Russians during the Battle of Nomonhan in mid-1939. As the Pacific War began, they were deployed to the Philippine Islands during the Japanese conquest in 1941-1942, and then to Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands to bombard American positions at Henderson Field.Source: Wikipedia. ww2dbase
