ww2dbaseCommissioned in Mar 1945, USS Macabi performed her trials on Lake Michigan, then between 19 and 26 Apr she transited down the Mississippi River to New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, departing three days later for her shakedown cruise off Panama. After final training at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, United States, she departed for the Caroline Islands to conduct lifeguard duties off Truk. After ten days at Guam, Mariana Islands for repairs, she was en route back to Truk area when the war was over, and she was ordered to sail back to the United States. She was inactivated at Mare Island Navy Yard, California and decommissioned in 1946.

ww2dbasePer an agreement signed on 1 Apr 1960, the United States loaned submarines USS Macabi and USS Lamprey to the Argentinian Navy. She was transferred to Argentina in 1960 and operated with the Argentinian Navy until 1971, when she was sold by the United States to Argentina for spare parts. She was broken up in 1972.
