ww2dbaseThe Soviet submarine M-57 was a Malyutka-class submarine of the XII sub-type. She was built in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod), Russia in Jul 1939. She was renamed M-49 in Oct 1939. Assigned to the Pacific Fleet in Nov 1939, she became missing south of Vladivostok in Eastern Russia in Aug 1941, most likely having entered a Soviet defensive minefield by mistake some time between 10 and 16 Aug 1941. The wreck was found by remote-controlled underwater vehicles operated from Russian Navy rescue vessel Igor Belousov in early Apr 2025.
