ww2dbaseTsingtau, named after the capital of the former German colony Kiautschou Bay in China, was the first Schnellboot (fast attack craft) tender built by the German Navy. Her keel was laid down by Blohm und Voss in Hamburg, Germany in 1933, and was commissioned into serivce in 1934. She was faster than the existing generic fleet tenders in service at this time, thus better able to work with the fast-moving Schnellboot. She carried ammunition and fuel for the Schnellboot under her care, and also offered crew space to house Schnellboot personnel between operations. In the early stages of the European War, she briefly took on the concurrent role as an anti-aircraft gunnery training ship. After the war, she served under the British banner, locating naval mines in the North Sea. She was scrapped in the United Kingdom in Feb 1950.
