ww2dbaseSubmarine Guglielmo Marconi was completed in Feb 1940. On her first war patrol, she sank British destroyer HMS Escort in the western Mediterranean Sea in Jul 1940. Transiting the Strait of Gibraltar in Sep 1940, she sank Spanish fishing boat Almirante Jose de Carranza in the Atlantic Ocean before arriving at Bordeaux, France at the end of the month to join German submarines in attacking Allied shipping in the Atlantic Ocean. Her third war patrol saw her sinking the already damaged Swedish freighter Vingaland in the North Atlantic. Her fifth war patrol was her most fruitful, sinking British tanker Cairndale in May 1941, British cargo ship Baron Lovat in Jun 1941, and Swedish cargo ship Taberg in Jun 1941. She became missing some time on or after 28 Oct 1941 and was never seen again.

1941年5月30日 Guglielmo Marconi sank British tanker Cairndale 200 kilometers (120 miles) west of Gibraltar; four were killed.
