ww2dbasePrince Wilhelm Ernst Alexis Hermann was born to Prince Chlodwig of the House of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld and Princess Caroline of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich in Rotenburg an der Fulda, Grand Duchy of Hesse, German Empire. On 16 Aug 1905, Prince Chlodwig became the head of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld, thus making Prince Wilhelm the heir. In the 1920s, he resided at the Schloss Augustenau castle in Herleshausen in the Hesse region of Germany; during this time he was engaged in forestry and agriculture. In 1932, he joined the Nazi Party and the Nazi Schutzstaffel (SS) organization. In 1933, he married Princess Marianne of Prussia in Tabarz, Germany, with whom he would have two sons and one daughter. During the European War, he transferred to the German Army, with his SS rank of SS-Hauptsturmführer converted to the army rank of Hauptmann, or captain. In Apr 1942, he was killed in action on the Eastern Front.
