ww2dbasePrincess Charlotte Adelgonde Elisabeth Marie Wilhelmine was born in Berg Castle in Luxembourg in 1896 to Grand Duke William IV of Luxembourg and Princess Infanta Maria Ana of Portugal. On 14 Jan 1919, her sister, Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde, abdicated amidst revolutionary ferver, and Charlotte was crowned as the successor. Later in the same year, she marred Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma, with whom she would have six children. As German troops marched into Luxembourg in 1940, she placed the grand ducal family and the government under the protection of France, but the rapid German advances quickly led to France announcing her inability to offer such protection. After a brief time in Portugal, she established herself in London, England, United Kingdom. She made many radio broadcasts from London to maintain anti-German sentiment during the occupation. She also visited the United States to seek support for the liberation of her country. Later, her family settled in the city of Montreal in Canada. She returned to Luxembourg in Apr 1945. She abdicated in favor of her son Jean in Nov 1964. She passed away from cancer at Fischbach Castle in central Luxembourg in 1985. She was interred in the Ducal Crypt of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in the city of Luxembourg.

著名二戰名言
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."
