Letters from Iwo Jima Wins Oscar for Sound Editing

26 Feb 2007

The Academy Award of Merit for Best Sound Editing is an award granted to a film exhibiting the finest or most aesthetic sound editing or sound design. This year at the 79th Academy Awards that honor went to Alan Robert Murray and Bub Asman for the film Letters from Iwo Jima. The film was also nominated for, but did not win three other categories including the coveted titles of Best Picture and Best Director.

For additional information on this film, please see the film's official website. This Wikipedia article also offers a look of this film, but bear in mind that it contains spoilers.

WW2DB has a collection containing over 150 photographs on the Battle of Iwo Jima, including many color photographs. This collection is growing larger steadily as well. If you are interested in seeing some visuals that inspired Letters from Iwo Jima as well as its sister film Flags of Our Fathers, please be sure to check it out.

"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."
