WW2 Veteran and Former US President Gerald Ford Passed Away
When Gerald Ford served aboard the carrier Monterey during the Pacific War as the officer in charge of a 40-millimeter antiaircraft gun crew on the fantail deck, he was no different than other young officers in the US Navy. But what set him apart was his future in politics which eventually brought him to the White House. Best known as the leader who brought the split United States together after Richard Nixon's Watergate scandal, the 38th president suffered several health setbacks this year, including pneumonia in Jan 2006 and undergoing angioplasty in Aug. Ford passed away yesterday on 26 Dec 2006. Former US President Jimmy Carter called Ford "one of the most admirable public servants and human beings I have ever known."
