Close up photo of a Martin B-26B-20-MA Marauder
s/n 41-31765 assigned to the 450th BS, 322nd BG,
9TH Air Force. Aircraft was written off in crash
August 12,1944, due to combat damage over France.
Pilots nursed crippled aircraft back to its base at Great Dunmow, Essex UK. Flak damage, and its electrical system generators, hydraulic system were shot out, landing gear was cranked down.
Pilot ordered enlisted crew members to bail out. While trying to land aircraft it skidded off the runway and crashed into control tower killing both pilots.

KIA 2nd Lt. John R. Walker - Pilot
KIA 2nd Lt. Bruce Taylor - Co Pilot
RTD S/Sgt. Ernest Pilot - Togglier

RTD Sgt. Marvin E. Vogt - Tail Gunner

The pilots did not like to fly early versions of this aircraft.Small wing area made for high landing and stall speeds.The wings were so small compared to contemporary aircraft it was commonly known as "The Baltimore whore" because it had no visible means of support!Later variants corrected this problem.
