Battleship row under attack, photo was taken
by Petty Officer 1st Class, Takeo Shiro.
Rooster tail from a dropped torpedo, flown by Petty Officer, 3rd Class, Yasumi Oku's
B5N (Kate).
Or could it be from a Miget sub, that was
able to get into the harbor? and launch a torpedo into the U.S.S. West Virginia.
In all the confusion, will History really
ever know?

If you zoom the above photograph to 400%, you'll see a Nakajima B5N (Kate) torpedo bomber flying over the docks.

You can find it if you look at the torpedo splashes in the harbor, now look to your left, at the two pools of foam in the water.

Now look above and you'll see the B5N (Kate)
The Japanese used 40 Nakajima B5Ns armed with torpedos, and 103 B5Ns carrying bombs to cripple the US Pacific Fleet.

This is the photo that some analysts believe shows a Japanese midget submarine in position to fire torpedoes at Battleship Row. The object is left of center just to the right of the three small splashes. Interested readers should be aware that a large body of material exists considering all sides of this question and so far there is still no consensus among historians.

This photograph was taken from the B5N2 “Kate” torpedo bomber piloted by Lt Hirata Matsumura flying from the carrier Hiryu. Matsumura was the executive officer of the aircraft in the torpedo strike and his navigator, Petty Officer 1st Class Takeo Shiro, took this photograph. Matsumura had started a run on the USS Utah on the opposite side of Ford Island but when this photo was taken, he was coming around to make a run on the West Virginia.
