FREE FRENCH FORCES: M4 SHERMANN TANK?
Okay let's look at that photograph again, the M4 Shermann is an American built tank and the same for the crew's equipment.
I see what looks like a French Tri-color of
Blue, White and Red on the center of the hull, and a name what looks like AOMDA or ROMDA below the driver's hatch, different type of markings on the vehicle's right fender.
American markings would have on the front hull, for example: Platoon letter like "B", vehicle number 10 and Army or Corp like
Patton's 3rd Army 3-A, it would look like
anyway, that's my guess.B-10-3A

The M4 Sherman could belong to the French 2nd
Armored Division, part of the 1st French Army
Equipment was provided under lend-lease.
