The Nuffield cruiser - variously called A 13 or Mk IV - was not reliable. The design, based on the Christie suspension, was by no means a bad one, the road speed was quite good and it carried a 2-pdr gun. Major General Martel, who should have known, reckoned it superior to the German Mk III 'as a design'. Unfortunately the quality of engineering was less good, for which Martel placed the blame clearly on the Ministry of Supply.
