PHOTO OF THE FAMOUS DC-2 1/2: THE STORY

May 1941 CNAC DC-3 flying from Chungking to Chengtu China, Capt. H.L. Wood landed to avoid Japanese fighters, on the ground the DC-3 was strafed and a bomb blew off the right wing.

WORKING WITH STICKS AND STONES:

Word was sent for a replacement wing However,
the only wing available was a DC-2 wing that was five feet shorter. Another DC-3 flew 900 miles and arrived with the wing bolted under its fuselage mechanics patched the bullet holes and bolted the wing, and the aircraft flew out.
