- Hunter-Killer Task Group 22.2 centered around escort carrier USS Card and escorts departed Bermuda for their patrol area in the mid-Atlantic for anti-submarine warfare. - British prisoner of war Lieutenant Mike Sinclair was killed by a German guard while attempting to escape from the Oflag IV-C camp at Colditz Castle in Germany. - 100 miles west of Inchon, Korea, submarine USS Thresher tracked a single 1,500-ton merchant ship. Thresher fired two torpedoes and both hit the ship broadside. The ship sank within a minute. - British 501 Squadron's Tempest aircraft continued to fly all weather patrols against the V-1 flying bombs. The American Flight Officer Bud Miller shot down his 9th and final bomb but Flight Lieutenant Gordon "Snowy" Bonham DFC was killed when his Tempest aircraft crashed in bad weather at Spitfield Farm in Essex, England, United Kingdom; the New Zealander had flown against the Japanese in Singapore in 1942, and had 5 flying bombs to his credit.
