ww2dbaseIn 1924, Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was established within Ukraine, with the capital situated at Balta. In 1929, the capital was moved to Tiraspol. In Jun 1940, Germany forced Romania to cede the Bessarabia and northern Bukovina regions to the Soviet Union, and in Aug 1940, parts of these newly acquired regions were combined with the existing Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic to form a new republic of the Soviet Union, named Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. In episodes similar to other nations taken into the fold of the Soviet Union, eliminations of unwanted social elements in Bessarabia and northern Bukovina took place; modern estimates put the figure of former Romanians being persecuted at about 86,000. Many of them were deported to Kazakhstan and Siberia, while others simply disappeared. In 1941, when Germany invaded the Soviet Union, Romanian troops crossed into Moldova and took back Bessarabia and northern Bukovina. The Romanians cooperated with the Germans in terms of the deportation of Jews; between 1941 and 1944, about 147,000 Jews in Moldova were sent to ghettos concentration camps; 90,000 of whom would die. After the war, Moldova deported thousands of ethnic Germans from its borders. Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic remained under Soviet control until Aug 1991 when the independent Republic of Moldova was formed.

@ Nabgod Uvas, Romania is not the "mother land" of Moldavia...Romania is a modern state and Moldova was never a part of it. Moldova was created in the late 14th century by the Musat family and Romania never existed. Moldavia is Moldavia, and Romania is a conglomeration of old states devoured by new innaccurate ideas...none of the people are Romans, they are Dacian in descent.

@Descendant Tomsa, if you are so proud of your dacian heritage you are right! But just ask yourself 2 simple questions: 1. where those Dacians had the capital city (geographical location), and 2. Stefan the Great was the direct cousin of which leader of the Vallachia? So as you said, no connection at all there... :)

What part of Romania have autonomy? NONE
Even between 1918 and 1940 there was no autonomy for Moldavia and several revolts were crushed.
So there was an occupation and a attempt to destroy the identity of a historic nation.

It is not right some senteces from this presentation! From 1918 Moldavia (Basarabia) was reintegrated in his mother land Romania by the act of union of all romanians under one flag: Romania. At that time over 80% of citizens in this part of Romanian were romanians! After the threaty Riebenropp - Molotov, signed by germans and sowiet ministers for foreign affairs, and no commented by the former Antanta (UK, France, USA) in 1940 this part of Romania kingdome was tooken with force by sowiet army! another part of Romania was invaded after this threaty in his west part by Hortists (Hungarian). A small country like Romania who was treatened by his traditionally allies coud no put resistence to this events. But, after that, Marshall Antonescu, with his political maneuvers was able to give Romania the opportunity to regain the territories occupied by sowiet army! He was a hero at his times and a good romanian! He served his homeland! SO! the article has big mistakes because from 1918 to 1940 Moldavia (Basarabia was part of Romania as is stipulated in the Trianon threaty! And as was the willness of people from romanian territories to be a single state, under a single krone!!!!
