ww2dbaseIn 1938, the Italian Air Force contracted with Piaggio Aero to produce a prototype high-altitude bomber aircraft. Before the prototype was completed, the development was canceled by the Italian Air Force, but the prototype would be completed and delivered as a high-altitude research aircraft. The resulting P.111 aircraft took its first flight on 9 Apr 1941, and on subsequent flights it would help Italian engineers develop pressurized cabins. This aircraft was retired from service in early 1943 and was scrapped.
