ww2dbaseJ2F Duck biplanes were delivered by aircraft production firm Grumman to the United States Navy in 1936. After the Pacific War began in Dec 1941, production was transferred to the Columbia Aircraft Corporation in New York, United States in order to free up Grumman's production capacity for combat aircraft. They were used by all four branches of the United States military, Navy, Army, Marines, and Coast Guard, serving in a wide variety of roles including scouting, anti-submarine, and air-sea rescue. After the war in 1948, several surplus US Navy J2F Duck aircraft were converted for use by the United States Air Force in the air-sea rescue role with the designation of OA-12.
ww2dbaseDuring the design's production life, 584 J2F Duck aircraft were built, 330 of which were by Columbia.
ww2dbaseIn terms of sales beyond the US border, Argentina purchased four G-15 aircraft to J2F-4 specification and twenty G-20 machines to JF-2 specification, Columbia purchased three ex-USAAF OA-12 aircraft, and Mexico purchased two ex-USN J2F-6 aircraft.

I am trying to find out which, if any, of the US Navy aircraft carriers at the Battle of Midway carried the Grumman J2F. Can you help please?

The J2F Duck was the "aviator's savior" on Guadalcanal in 1942. At least two were stationed on Henderson Field for SAR operations. If I'm not mistaken, Joe Foss was both picked up by one, and flew as an Observor when one of his Squadron's pilots had to ditch. In the early 90's I had the opportunity to literally crawl all over,around,and through one. Despite it being a minimally powered,undergunned bi-plane, you could tell it was built by the "Grumman Ironworks". It was built to last.
