ww2dbaseSubmarine USS Sennet was commissioned into service in mid-1944 and embarked on her first war patrol against Japan in Jan 1945. Of her four patrols in the Pacific War, the fourth was the most effective, during which she sank three cargo ships and one tanker in the Sea of Japan. After the war, she was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet, basing first out of New London, Connecticut, United States and then out of Balboa, Panama Canal Zone. In late 1946 and early 1947, she participated in Operation Highjump, an Antarctic expedition which saw the first use of basic under-ice SONAR equipment, which was installed aboard USS Sennet. In 1949, her base was moved to Key West, Florida, United States. In 1951, she was converted to a fleet snorkel submarine at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Pennsylvania, United States. In the 1950s and 1960s, she mainly conducted training operations on the east coast of the United States. She was sold for scrapping in 1973 aftering being found unfit for service.
