ww2dbaseUSS Pintado was commissioned into service on the first day of 1944 and had her shakedown and training cruise off Key West, Florida, United States. She was transferred to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, United States in Apr 1944, and embarked on her first war patrol in the following month. As a member of a wolfpack, she earned several kills and assisted other submarines in earning kills with her aggressive tactics in the first war patrol, and it was to set a model for her subsequent patrols, winning a Presidential Unit Citation for her achievements in 1944. Toward the end of the war, she operated on lifeguard station off Japan in her final two war patrols, picking up several downed airmen. After the war, she was decommissioned in San Francisco, California, United States in 1946. She was sold to Zidell Explorations, Inc. of Portland, Oregon, United States for scrap. Her conning tower is now on display at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas, United States.
