ww2dbaseCommissioned in 1926, Duguay-Trouin had seen service in France and in French Indo-China prior to the European War. As tensions built up, she was removed from gunnery training duties in Jun 1939 and was instead assigned to the 6th Cruiser Division. She patrolled waters of the Atlantic Ocean, intercepting German merchant ship Halle off Dakar, French West Africa in Oct 1939; Halle would be scuttled by her own crew to prevent capture by Duguay-Trouin. In early may 1940, she was transferred to Beirut, French Syria-Lebanon. After the French defeat, she was interned and disarmed by the British at Alexandria, Egypt. She sat idle in Alexandria until May 1943, when she joined the Allied fleet. After being re-armed in Jul 1943, she transported troops in early 1944 and then supported the Operation Dragoon landings in Aug 1944. Until Apr 1945, she provided naval gunfire support for ground troops fighting in Italy. After the war, she returned to French Indo-China and supported operations against the Viet Minh uprising. She was decommissioned from service in Mar 1952.
