In the English-speaking part of the world that I find myself to be in, there is plenty of information about armies of the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and some others. When it comes to WW2-era Eastern European armies, however, it is a little lacking. The Royal Hungarian Army in World War II, a title in Osprey Publishing's "Men-at-Arms" series, bridges that gap a little bit by providing some information about the uniforms, ranks, training, organization, and other pertinent of information about the army of this Axis nation. The information is largely intertwined with a very brief history of Hungarian operations in WW2. The chapters are divided by phases of Hungarian involvement in the European War, with chapter headings such as "Recovering the Lost Territories", "Invasion of the USSR", and "Occupation Forces". Quick mentions of individual military organizations (corps, divisions, etc.) are present, making this one of the few English sources in my limited knowledge of the Eastern Front that makes an attempt to construct orders of battle for this minor Axis nation. Like other titles in this series, rare photographs and vivid illustrations add value to this book, and I imagine these resources can be extremely useful to modelers. This book definitely is a great starting point for me to start learning more about the Hungarian Army and how its men played a role in the European War.
