ww2dbaseLeslie G. Elliott was from Hollywood, California, United States. Although he wanted to be a pilot, by the time he joined the United States Navy, he was already 26 years of age, which was considered too old for flight training. Having some experience working for a photography shop in Hollywood, he opted to attend the US Navy Photography School at Pensacola, Florida, United States. He also spent some time under Commander John Ford, receiving motion picture training. After the war, he left the US Navy for some years, re-joining in 1948. He filmed weapons testing at China Lake, California; X-15 rocket aircraft flights; and the pre-Mercury Cape Canaveral rocket tests. During the Vietnam War, he was placed in charge of the filming of training films for counter-insurgency air warfare.

Looking for info on my great uncle Robert James Burwick TMC USN. Understand he served on USS Grand Canyon AD-28 and USS Wasp CV-7 when she was sunk. He also reportedly served on USS Hornet CV-8. Uncle Bob passed away in 1989. Looking for rosters of these 3 ships to confirm he served on all 3. Cannot find full rosters on any ships. Thank you. 12-Jun-2020
