NAZI MEETS FASCIST:
Adolf Hitler meets with Croatian fascist leader Ante Pavelic. You can tell this is going to be a power meeting, Hitler's higher on the steps looking down on Pavelic.
Croatian fascists were allied with Germany
and were responsible for genocide, Pavelic's regime was not officially recognized by the Vatican, but the Church never condemmed the mass genocide and forced conversions to Catholicism that was perpetrated by the Ustase.
Soon after coming to power, in April 1941 Pavelic was given a private audience in Rome with Pope Pius XII an act which the Pope was critized for. At the end of WWII, Pavelic fled Europe and went to Argentina, he moved to other countries he was wounded after being shot in the back, but died 2 1/2 years later from the wound, in Madrid, Spain 1959.
For decades the Encyclopedia Britannica had
the following sentence, when talking about
Yugoslavia and World War II...
"In Bosnia...The Croatian fascists began a
massacre of Serbs which in the whole annals of WWII, was surpassed for its savagery only by the mass extermination of the Polish Jews"
1971 to 1986 Encyclopedia Britannica.
