This attack took place shortly before midnight and the only reason Tatsuno Maru can be seen this well through the periscope is because she was alight with gasoline fires from stem to stern that lit up the area like daylight, according to Thresher’s patrol report. This attack took place shortly after Thresher torpedoed the 4,000-ton Toho Maru which sunk by the stern.
