Besides being instructed by the Americans to paint these planes stark white and overpaint the hinomarus with dark green crosses, the Americans instructed that these two airplanes would have the identifying callsigns of Bataan I and Bataan II as a direct reminder of the treatment of Allied prisoners on the Bataan Death March.
