Thank you both for your comments and the caption has been changed to reflect your input and also a correction in the date.
Further, this plane (s/n 42-68004) was lost on 23 Dec 1944 when it was flown by Captain James B. Fishburn on a bomber escort mission escorting B-26 bombers to Euskirchen, Germany. Capt Fishburn reported engine trouble before arriving over the target area and after a brief engagement with German Bf-109 fighters, Fishburn failed to join up with his wingman, 2Lt Delmar Miller. Fishburn radioed that he was bailing out and one parachute was seen. Fishburn was taken prisoner and survived the war in Stalag Luft I in Barth, Prussia.
