The attack referred to here was on October 30 1944 off Leyte. Franklin was hit again on March 19 1945 just off the coast of Japan, damaged much more severely, and was then sent to New York for repairs. She never returned to a combat theater and was the only large carrier that left the Pacific and did not return during the war.
