ww2dbaseThe Yangkai Airfield, located 33 miles northeast of Kunming, Yunan Province, China, hosted B-24 Liberator bombers of 373rd Bombardment Squadron of US 308th Bombardment Group between 20 Mar 1943 and Sep 1944 (when they were moved to Luliang Airfield, also in Yunnan Province) and B-25 Mitchell bombers of 11th, 22nd, and 491st Bombardment Squadrons of US 341st Bombardment Group between Jan 1944 and Sep 1945. Between Jul and Aug 1945, 11th Bombardment Squadron and 22nd Bombardment Squadron also flew A-26 Invader aircraft. It also received "Hump" flights from India over the eastern Himalaya Mountains. The base was closed in early 1946.
