Pearl Harbor
December 10, 1941

From: Commanding Officer.
To: Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Subject: Report of engagement of December 7, 1941.

  1. The following report of subject engagement is submitted:
    1. Offensive Measures:

This command being under overhaul at the Navy Yard without operative armament or major calibre ammunition on board, was restricted to the use of small calibre arms. The major contribution of an offensive nature consisted in augmenting the gun crews of the New Orleans, which vessel was lying across the dock; the quick transfer of men and officers permitted that vessel to open fire with 5" guns in very short time.
    2. Own Losses and Damage:

None. No structural damage was suffered. However, one searchlight was damaged by bullet or fragment from unknown source. The bombs which fell closest to this vessel caused no ascertainable damage.
    3. Damage to Enemy:

None observed, as inflicted by this vessel.
    4. Distinguished Conduct of Personnel:

No member of this command can be singled out for commendation; the performance of all hands was in keeping with the best traditions.
    5. Other Items of Interest:

A small quantity of .50 calibre ammunition was transferred to the Tracy to assist that vessel in operating her armament.
