ww2dbaseOn 10 May 1938, the Japanese 5th Fleet under the command of Admiral Koichi Shiozawa arrived at the port city of Xiamen (Postal Map Romanization: Amoy) in Fujian Province, China, delivering 2,000 troops of the Yokosuka Special Naval Landing Force, Kure Special Naval Landing Force, and Sasebo Special Naval Landing Force. The city was defended by Han Wenying's Chinese 75th Division and Gao Xianshen's Xiamen garrison; Lieutenant General Song Tiancai was the overall commanding officer of the entire region. Especially lacking air support and anti-aircraft weaponry, the Chinese forces were easily overwhelmed by the Japanese. Chinese troops withdrew from Xiamen on 12 May, allowing the Japanese to gain this important port.

1938年5月10日	Japanese 5th Fleet under the command of Admiral Koichi Shiozawa arrived the port city of Xiamen, China, delivering 2,000 Special Naval Landing Force troops near Fort Baishi, but outside of the range of the Chinese coastal guns. Chinese troops abandoned the fort.
1938年5月11日	Japanese troops captured the Hulishan and Baishi forts at Xiamen, China.
1938年5月12日	During the night, Chinese troops abandoned Xiamen, China for nearby Songyu; thousands of civilians attempted to evacuate the city, 60,000 of whom would make their way to Gulangyu island, which was an international zone. Shortly after the departure of the Chinese troops, Japanese Special Naval Landing Force troops would arrive to capture the city; they would later be relieved by Jinmen Garrision of the Japanese 1st Garrison Unit.
